This is the part I almost didn't write, because I'm writing it as a single man who has gotten plenty of it wrong. But choosing who you love may be the single most consequential decision of your life — more than any career, any city, any list anyone makes about you. So here are a father's honest, unfinished thoughts: how hard it is, how little time you really have, what to actually look for, and how to know. Take all of it with a grain of salt, kiddos. But please, take it seriously. And forgive me — your dad was still figuring this one out when he wrote these.
